Double Driver: Portable Freeware to Backup and Restore Drivers

By | February 12, 2013

Double Driver is a very simple and useful tool which not only allows you to view all the drivers installed on your system but also allows you to backup, restore, save and print all chosen drivers. The utility scans your system, automatically detects and selects those drivers that aren’t native, and lets you back them up to any kind of storage: Local drives, USB disk, network folder, etc; and allows you to restore them at a mouse click within a few minutes. After reinstalling Windows, all drivers will be back in place in less than 5 minutes – sparing you of searching, inserting disc after disk and losing precious time. Double Driver is also able to display a detailed report about all your current drivers (versions, release dates, Provider, etc.). This feature can also be very useful when you want to analyze the differences between the drivers installed on different machines.

Double DriverThe program itself is pretty self explanatory, you do not need to have technical background to use it. Simply open the application, click on the Scan button. You can then choose to scan the host PC or select other (non live) Windows directory. Once you’ve scanned, Double Driver will have automatically selected non-Microsoft drivers (the ones that will be missing if you need to reinstall your system). You can of course choose specific drivers you’d like to save or select them all. To back up the drivers just press the Backup button. Choose a backup method, be it by zip file, a directory dump, or a Single file self extract (exectable).

Double Driver Backup DriversIf you ever need to restore your drivers, open up Double Driver and click Restore. After you locate the backup file, Double Driver will bring forth an installation wizard that will help you perform the recovery. If you backup your drives as self extract (exectable) file, you don’t even have to have the Double Driver program installed, all you have to do is double click the Double Driver EXE file and all drivers will be restored to the way they were before you reinstall system.  Just remember to keep a copy of the driver backup somewhere safe if you need to reinstall Windows.
